Jon Crothers and Tanya Crothers are architects who have been working together for many years. Their collaboration as artists began in 1960 when, as students of Lloyd Rees, they both took part in an exhibition at Sydney University entitled Six Young Artists.
Their work has included various public and private projects – mosaic walls and paving, sculpture and fountains in both Malaysia and Australia. Since 1996 they have written and illustrated several limited edition books on India.
In recent years they have held a number of exhibitions together. Experience with two and three dimensions continues to inform their artwork. Their images are often figurative, yet unreal – implying the spirit of place or objects by selecting and changing chosen elements. Small and larger scale works in a variety of media explore ideas of culture, the built environment and landscape.
